YAMAHA Seat Time!

 Today was a great track practice at #Mountain West Motocross Park in Mona, Utah.  I made sure not just to ride around the track just to get seat time.  I made an effort to actually train. 

I know that riding my dirt bike is great training, but I've been told by everybody that it’s not the best way to become a better rider. Vincent from SMX Factory School made me practice, practice and practice on the turns. He also told me that I need to make the time to work on the skills it takes to be a better rider.

I don't have money coming in like a lot of riders so I try to get to the track when I can.  My grandpa drove up from Mesquite, Nevada last weekend; a four-hour one-way trip for him just to help me get to Mona for Saturday's practice from 9:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m.  They close at 2.  Yep, he then drove back home Saturday night.

Well this Saturday morning I made sure I was warmed up and the very first rider on the track.  They had watered the crap out there and there was a lot of mud.  I needed to practice on a muddy track; that's for sure.

I'm not going to tell you it was a lot of clean fun; it wasn't.  The #891Suspension rebuild needed to be tested and it was.  The new #Flexx Handle bars had to get used too; they did.  Thankful that I was running my #Acerbis skid plate because it helped keep a lot of mud off of the engine.  But the thing that kept me running in the mud was the great set of #Pivotrax Tires.  They are simply amazing.

Going to get to the track tomorrow, Sunday morning again because it's race time in one week at #Bunker Hill Motocross Track in Delta, Utah and because this will be my first race back since breaking my leg I want to be ready.  Wish me luck!

Grandpa and I just picked up my Yamaha from TJ Bronson of 891 SUSPENSION located in Sandy, Utah.  I was spending spring break with grandpa and grandma with my sister, Katie, my cousin Presley and my girlfriend Piper down in Mesquite, Nevada.  We left early Friday morning and drove from Mesquite to Sandy just to pick the bike up.  I'm really excited to see the difference but still have a couple more weeks to get my strength back from the broken Fibula and muscle tear.

What is 891 suspension & performance?

When I talk with other guys at the track I came to a conclusion that 891 Suspension & Performance is the best place to get the best set up for your dirt bike. With a specialty in suspension, TJ knows all the in's and out's to make your dirt bike handle better and believe me, safer!

I know now that my problem with my brand new 2021 Yamaha YZ250F was suspension. I found out that most any handling issues can be fixed with basic suspension adjustments or in my case a rebuild to adjust for my size and weight.  I should have done the adjustments right when I got the new bike.  I might not have crashed and broke my leg.

From my point of view ask yourself; have you experienced any of these symptoms on your dirt bike during a race or ride?

Your rear wheel won’t track a line properly?

Your front wheel won’t track a line properly?

You’re losing some stability at high speeds?

You find that your front wheel won’t stay planted?

You’re finding that the rear wheel bucks too much?

Or even that your front end feels saggy and unresponsive?

I found out that my Yamaha bike’s stock suspension was tuned to work for a variety of riders and riding styles for a guy who might only weigh around 170 pounds; that didn’t work for me being over 5’11” and around 250 without gear. It’s a great mid-range setup for most guys that will get you out on the track with ease, but once you start pushing those stock settings you’ll often find they’re lacking in most of the critical areas. New bikes from brands like Yamaha are known for being well-balanced right out of the box, but I now know that even that new suspension will need a tune-up for a lot of riders.

So, my bike is done.  My broken leg is healed.  In a couple of weeks it’s time to test the new suspension from TJ at 891 Suspension.  Yeah, I’m excited.

RMX #moto86 Winter Series Round 2 - 1/1/2021

This was my first race with my new bike, a 2021 YAMAHA YZ250F Monster Edition.  This has been a huge change from my other bikes, the 2005 HONDA CRF450R and the 2017 HONDA CRF450R. I'm trying to sell the 2017 if you're interested. It is "SCARY" Fast!!!😈💪💩

I felt really comfortable on the new bike but still need to practice more on it before making a difference.  I guarantee that you'll see a huge improvement on my lap times in the next race. My biggest problem was taking the wrong lines and was a little hesitant on the jumps not really knowing how to handle the difference in power from the 450 to the 250.


I used the 450 moto to just practice so I really didn't push myself.  My best lap time was in my second 250 moto which ended up with a 02:04.370.  I was also running 5th through 2 laps but picked some terrible lines with ruts that were really deep.  One rut my bike actually touched the front fender.  There were 4 big time sandbaggers in the 250 Beginners Class so if you take the cheaters out I feel like I had a great race this weekend. I ended up finishing 12th overall out of 32 riders; not bad for 1st Yamaha ride.
